A few years ago, Africa experienced a tilt from West to East, with higher investments and growth experienced in East Africa. East Africa is now one of the fastest growing regions in the continent, where the largest economies are Kenya and Ethiopia.

Given half the population size, Kenya's GDP per capita is much higher than Ethiopia, and in fact, all other East African countries. It can also be seen as the most sophisticated economy in the region.

Kenya serves as the most promising gateway into Africa, with Mombasa as its prominent harbour. It has recently put into service a new railway line from Mombasa to Nairobi, its capital, which facilitates exports and imports within the country, and between its landlocked neighbours.

Overall, Kenya’s business environment has grown significantly over the past few years, with lots of potential waiting to be unlocked in most, if not all, of its economic sectors.

In this session, Mr Adil Popat, Group Executive Chairman of Simba Corporation, a diversified firm with head office in Nairobi, Kenya, will talk about the business environment in East Africa and Kenya, and the investment opportunities available for Singaporean businesses.

Attendees can expect to learn the following:

  • Business climate in East Africa
  • Business environment and investment opportunities in Kenya
